In these articles I look at the best cheap, high potential players in FIFA 17, with tonight’s post focusing on attacking midfielders. I’ll go through a few recommendations, then show you the full list of top quality players afterwards. For a full run down of how I choose the players and what the different columns in the table mean, click on “What are these articles all about?” below.

The articles in this series should give you some ideas if you’re looking for a new signing in a key area. There is one article for each position on the pitch to make it easy for you to quickly find players to bolster your squad.

All of the players given here have a minimum potential of 80, so you know you’re getting quality. The maximum OVR for each player is 75, both to keep transfer prices down and to avoid presenting you with too many options and thus making it too difficult to choose the player you need.

The ‘Avai?’ column is short for ‘available?’ and refers both to whether or not you can buy the specified player at the start of the first season and how long their current contract is. Let’s take Y/2 as an example – Y means that yes, you can buy him at the start of a new career, and the number means he has two years left on his contract. Similarly, N/3 would mean that no, you can’t buy the player straight away, and he has three years left on his contract. These ‘no’ players are often available for transfer if you wait until the January transfer window, however. For some players this column is blank – this means that they are out on loan at the start and are therefore unavailable for purchase until the second season.

The figure in the player cost column refers to the price you are given if you scout the player. There’s also another column – ‘Enquiry’. This refers to the price the other team want for the player if you enquire about him. Often there is a large difference between the player cost obtained through scouting and that obtained through an enquiry. This leaves a lot of room for negotiation, so don’t be put off if a price in the ‘Enquiry’ column is high, as you can usually get the player for much less. Try bidding lower than what you think will be accepted – you may be surprised at their response. If the ‘Enquiry’ column is blank it’s because the team refused to give a price, either because the player has just joined them or because they are loaning him in.

And as a final note, in FIFA 17 EA update player OVRs and potentials every week. Mose of the time these are very minor changes, and most players won’t be affected at all unless they have had a very noteworthy week. Furthermore, some players occasionally disappear if they have been put in the reserve squad that week. So just bear in mind that these figures should be read as a guide only and not a definitive account of player costs, potentials, etc, for the entire season.[/expand]

So without further ado, let’s see the cheap young attacking midfielders that I recommend.

Viktor Kovalenko: potential 87

FIFA 17 best cheap attacking midfielders

Viktor Kovalenko will develop into one of the best attacking midfielders in FIFA 17

If you’ve got the budget, there’s only one attacking midfielder you should consider buying: Viktor Kovalenko. His 87 potential will make him one of the best attacking midfielders in the game, and with that kind of talent he’s going to get snapped up fast – so make sure you don’t miss out!

While some CAMs are fast and quick, and others are great playmakers, Kovalenko can do a bit of everything. His dribbling, positioning and finishing will make him a goal threat, while his great passing makes him a useful supplier to the rest of his team. He’s pretty quick and has 87 stamina, so won’t ever stop running, and he can take free kicks too. If he’s this good now, imagine how good he’ll be at 87 OVR!

Shakhtar Donetsk recognise his talent and want you to pay £9m for him, which can be negotiated down to around £7m. His wages are £18,000. That’s a small price to pay for one of the most promising young players in FIFA 17.

Leandrinho: potential 84

FIFA 17 best cheap attacking midfielders

Leandrinho is hugely cheap for his potential

If you want a high potential player but can’t afford Kovalenko’s price tag, opt for Leandrinho instead. He’s perfect if you’re looking for a pacey player who can also play out wide, but who won’t break the bank. And with 84 potential, he’ll develop into a phenomenal attacking midfielder in a few years’ time.

His main strengths lie in his speed (83 acceleration and 77 sprint speed), and his ability to beat defenders. His 75 dribbling and 80 balance mean he can take on and beat defenders rated much higher than himself, and he shouldn’t need much development before that gets even better. His passing isn’t great, but if you want a winger-type player rather than a playmaker, he’s a great option.

Napoli only want £1.7m for him as well, which means you can get him for around £1.2m. His wages are £7,100. If you can’t quite afford him, try Leonardo Da Silva Lopes. He’s a very similar player to Leandrinho but only costs £1.1m (so you can buy him for about £800,000), and has 81 potential.

Amato Ciciretti: potential 82

FIFA 17 best cheap attacking midfielders

Amato Ciciretti can be bought for free, making him an amazing bargain

Leandrinho and Amato Ciciretti are quite similar players, but if you don’t want to wait for Leandrinho to grow and wanted someone a little more developed, go for Ciciretti. He’s blisteringly fast (86 acceleration and 85 sprint speed), so will make light work of opposition full backs. He’s also got 75 dribbling and 4 star skills, further adding to his attacking repertoire. Add in 82 potential, great passing and decent long shots and you’ve got yourself a very talented player.

But the icing on the cake is his price: £0. Ciciretti’s contract is expiring, meaning you can get him for free in the January transfer window. Just find him in January and select ‘approach to sign on contract expiry’, and he’ll join your team at the start of the second season. His wages are very cheap as well at £4,700.
