You don’t always have to pay a hefty transfer fee to get quality players
In fact, sometimes you don’t have to pay any transfer fee at all. There are plenty of high potential and high OVR players in FIFA 15 who will join your team for nothing, and the only payments you have to make are for their wages. That can be especially useful if you’re doing a career with a lower league team where money is tight, but any team can benefit from free transfers.
So if you’ve never tried getting players for free in FIFA 15 before, I’ve put together this series to help you find the best free players available to buy.
How do I get players for free in FIFA 15?
That’s easy – once you’ve found the player you want, just find them in the January transfer window and press ‘approach to sign on contract expiry’. Just wait a couple of days for them to mull over the contract, and if they accept then they will join your team at the end of the season.
But you can’t sign any player this way – they must be aged 23 or above by the time the January transfer window ends and have a year left on their contract (i.e. it will expire at the end of the season).
How do I find these free players?
Well, you could send your scout to various countries looking for players whose contracts are expiring. Of course, the problem with that is that it all depends on the quality of your scout – poor scouts might miss plenty of free players.
But given how unreliable that is, you’re much better off coming here and checking out my guides. Just have a browse of the list below – I’ve included every player who can be signed for free and has a minimum potential of 75, so you know you’re getting top quality players all round (and check out my other guides in this series for more free players).
All the OVRs listed below are true at the start of a career. When they join your team their OVR is likely to have changed, so you can expect the players to be even better than how they’re listed below, provided they’re not aged over 30. If they are, don’t be surprised if their OVR has declined.
NOTE: This article is on goalscorers – players who utilise their pace, dribbling and finishing to score goals. If you’re looking for a strong striker who excels in the air, you’ll want my article on target men.
So, let’s check out my recommendations.

The elite option
I wasn’t sure whether to classify Luiz Adriano as a goalscorer or target man, such is his versatility. On the one hand his pace, good dribbling and 82 finishing means he’s excellent with the ball at his feet, but on the other his 79 strength, 80 jumping and 77 heading makes him a threat in the air too.
It’s that broad range of skills that makes him such a deadly attacker. No matter where he receives the ball or who he comes up against, he’s got a great chance of crafting a chance for himself. And with his 79 OVR you know he’s going to make an instant impact when he joins your team. His wages are fairly steep at £60,000, but you can pay a lot more for a player of his considerable talent.
The beast option
Not many players can boast the physical stats of Gyasi Zardes. He’s extremely fast (with his 85 acceleration and 87 sprint speed almost making him a speedster), but as well as that he comes with 77 strength. That means he can just bash his way through defences if his pace isn’t enough. He’s also got fantastic jumping, agility and stamina, so will be hard to beat physically.
But he’s also a very skillful player as well. Combine his good dribbling with his four star weak foot and four star skill moves and you’ve got a tricky player who can skill his way past opposition defenders with ease. That combination of physical and technical ability makes him a deadly striker and one will player much better than his OVR suggests.
The bargain option
If you want the kind of versatility that Luiz Adriano offers but can’t afford his wages, take a look at Muhammet Demir. Like Adriano, he’s an excellent goalscorer thanks to his pace, dribbling and finishing ability. But he’s also good in the air, can shoot from distance and even score free kicks. In effect that means he can play right across the front line, making him an invaluable player who can cover for others wherever you need him to.
Just make sure you go to sign him on or after 10 January, as that’s when he’ll turn 23; you won’t be able to sign him earlier in January. However, you’ll find that he is an absolute steal at just £15,000 in wages considering how well he can play in a number of different positions.
