FIFA 14 | Lower League Gems (summer) – Right midfielders

Well it took a while, but I’ve finally been able to update the FIFA 14 Lower League Gems series for summer! If you want promising players for an absolute bargain, you’re in the right place.

If you’re not sure what these articles are all about, click the bold link below. Otherwise, let’s get straight in to the recommendations.

These articles aim to highlight young, high potential players that are priced at £1m or less. If a player is not available to buy straight away, their maximum price (in the ‘Cost’ column; see below) is £500,000. Most articles will showcase players with a minimum potential of 77 (although in some cases having a minimum potential of 78 brought back more than enough players).

This year I made a couple of exceptions to the price rules. I have included players whose clubs want £1.1m for them (as opposed to a maximum price of £1m) because you can negotiate this down to under £1m, and in some cases excluding these players meant to articles were lacking players you could actually buy straight away! For the same reason I have bumped the £500,000 rule up to just under £600,000 (e.g. £525,000, £575,000, etc).

The ‘Cost’ column refers to the price your scout will bring back after he’s looked at the player. The ‘They want’ column refers to the price you will be quoted by the team if you enquire about their player. These enquiry prices are negotiable, so don’t be afraid to bid below what they want.

The ‘Avai?’ column is short for ‘Available?’ and refers to whether the player is available to buy in the first transfer window. The first letter indicates this (Y for yes, they are available and N for no, they are not), whilst the number refers to the length of their contract. Y/1 means the player’s contract is about to expire, so you should be able to get them for a discount price.

Finally, because EA release update squads every week, this could mean that some of the players listed in the article below are slightly different on your game. Furthermore, players sometimes exceed their potential, while it has been noted that occasionally players don’t grow as hoped. Therefore these stats are a guide only.

Let’s have a look at the right midfielders I recommend:

  • Wellington Silva
  • Ryan Williams
  • Ryo Miyaichi
  • Rubén Farfán
  • Taxiarchis Fountas

My first recommendation is Wellington Silva and he’s a pure, out-and-out winger. He’s extremely quick (91 acceleration and 90 sprint speed, and thanks to his 91 balance, 82 dribbling and 81 ball control it should be an absolute cinch to beat defenders. As if that’s not enough, he’s also got five star skills and excellent long shots, so with all that he should feel way, way better than his OVR suggests. He’s on loan in the first season but Arsenal have loads of great right midfielders (one reason why Ryo Miyaichi, further down this list, is so cheap) so he should be very affordable by the time you are able to bid for him.

Next up is Ryan Williams. It was tough choosing between him and Jacob Murphy because they are both pretty similar (and Murphy is a great player in his own right), but the thing that did it for me was stamina. While Murphy’s stamina starts at 54, Williams is rated at 75. He’s got good pace as well, and this combination means he should be tearing past defenders all game. His high stamina means he’ll be able to contribute more to your games, and therefore hopefully grow at a good rate. A bid of around £300,000 should be all you need.

Speaking of Ryo Miyaichi, he’s my next pick. He’s one of the fastest players in the game with 93 acceleration and 94 sprint speed, and his 76 dribbling and four star skills should make him a deadly winger. His four star weak foot should also mean he plays well on either wing, so he should be equally suited to going wide on the right or cutting inside from the left. As I mentioned earlier, because Arsenal already have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry, they only want £650,000 for Miyaichi; bid just over £500,000 and he should be yours.

My final pick for this article is Rubén Farfán, and he’s got a number of attributes which caught my eye. His excellent finshing, decent strength and stinging long shots mean he should score as much as he creates, and should develop into a powerful wide man who is not easily pushed off the ball. He’s a speedster (89 acceleration, 91 sprint speed), has got four star skills and good dribbling as well, and his 71 stamina should see him causing problems for the opposition longer than most. His wages are very affordable and although you can’t get him straight away, he should be well worth the wait.

One final note – if you’re looking for a wide player who can defend as well as attack, go for Taxiarchis Fountas. His defending stats are as good as his attacking ones, and his high stamina (77) should see him helping out in all areas of the pitch.

Now that we’ve seen my recommendations, here’s the list in full:
