In the first article on wide players, tonight we’ve got right midfielders. This includes both RMs and RWs, so whether you want someone to provide crosses or a player who can convert chances himself in FIFA 14, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Here are my recommendations:
- Zakaria Bakkali
- Kelvin
- Ivan Cavaleiro
- Silvan Widmer/Šime Vrsaljko
I’ve chosen Zakaria Bakkali because he starts with so much for a 17 year old. He’s already got the dribbler speciality that comes with his 86 dribbling and 92 balance, and his four star skill moves should really help you make the most of that. He’s also very quick, and it won’t be long before he gets the speedster speciality. He’s one of the youngest players in this article but already his OVR is one of the best, and his potential of 86 will put him right up there as one of the best in his position. PSV only want £3.7m for him and you can probably drive that down to around the £3m mark, which is an absolute steal.
Kelvin is up next, and like Vitinho in the attacking midfielders article, I’ve chose him for all those people who love doing tricks in FIFA 14. He comes with five star skills (and he’s the only player in this article with five star tricks that you can buy straight away), 82 dribbling, 92 agility and pace to burn. But what makes him even better is FC Porto want a ridiculously low amount for him. After an enquiry they demand £2m, which is the same amount as your scout will tell you Kelvin is worth; usually the enquiry amount is much higher. Porto accepted my very first offer of £1.2m, so they may be willing to sell him for even less. £1.2m for a five star skiller with 82 potential and one of the highest starting OVRs in this article is quite simply amazing!
If you want your wide right players to contribute goals then Ivan Cavaleiro is the player you need. He’s got pace and fantastic dribbling like you’d expect from a RM, but his 70 finishing, 78 shot power and 73 positioning are going to come in very useful in your career. Considering his potential, you’d expect these to reach into the 80s as he develops, so he’ll be a serious threat to opposition clean sheets. A bid of just over £2m should be enough to prise him away from SL Benfica. Alternatively, if you have limited funds, you can get a very similar player in Geuvânio for under £1m. Finally, Massimo Bruno is probably a more deadly threat in front of goal, but it’ll be hard convincing RSC Anderlecht to sell him for anything under £4.5m.
And if you’re looking for a player who can help out defensively, give Silvan Widmer or Šime Vrsaljko a try. Both have excellent defensive stats and can fill in at full back if needed, and they are both very decent in the air, so can contribute to set pieces both in attack and defense. Widmer has better dribbling, strength and defending stats, while Vrsaljko has better stamina, jumping and interceptions, so which one you go for is down to you. All of the players given here have a minimum potential of 80, so you know you’re getting quality. The maximum OVR for each player is 73, both to keep transfer prices down and to avoid presenting you with too many options and thus making it too difficult to choose the player you need.
The ‘Avai?’ column is short for ‘available?’ and refers both to whether or not you can buy the specified player at the start of the first season and how long their current contract is. Let’s take Y/2 as an example – Y means that yes, you can buy him at the start of a new career, and the number means he has two years left on his contract. Similarly, N/3 would mean that no, you can’t buy the player straight away, and he has three years left on his contract. These ‘no’ players are often available for transfer if you wait until the January transfer window, however. For some players this column is blank – this means that they are out on loan at the start and are therefore unavailable for purchase until the second season.
Initial player costs may seem very low this year. The figure in the player cost column refers to the price you are given if you scout the player. But I’ve also added a new column this time round – ‘They want’. This refers to the price the other team want for the player if you enquire about him. Often there is a large difference between the player cost obtained through scouting and that obtained through an enquiry. This leaves a lot of room for negotiation, so don’t be put off if a price in the ‘They want’ column is high, as you can usually get the player for much less. Try bidding lower than what you think will be accepted – you may be surprised at their response. If the ‘They want’ column is blank it’s because the team refused to give a price, either because the player has just joined them or because they are loaning him in.
And as a final note, in FIFA 14 EA update player OVRs and potentials every week. Mose of the time these are very minor changes, and most players won’t be affected at all unless they have had a very noteworthy week. Furthermore, some players occasionally disappear if they have been put in the reserve squad that week. So just bear in mind that these figures should be read as a guide only and not a definitive account of player costs, potentials, etc, for the entire season.[/expand]
