These articles aim to highlight young, high potential players that are priced at £1m or less. Most articles will showcase players with a minimum potential of 78. However, in some cases I lowered the minimum potential to 77 to ensure there were a good number of players for you to choose from.

The ‘Cost’ column refers to the price your scout will bring back after he’s looked at the player. The ‘They want’ column refers to the price you will be quoted by the team if you enquire about their player. These enquiry prices are negotiable, so don’t be afraid to bid below what they want.

Sometimes teams will refuse to quote a price for their player because he has only just joined them. In these cases, I have not given a price in the ‘They want’ column. Where this is the case, I have included a player if their scouted price is £500,000 or less, as this usually equates to a price of around £1m being quoted by the player’s team.

The ‘Avai?’ column is short for ‘Available?’ and refers to whether the player is available to buy in the first transfer window. The first letter indicates this (Y for yes, they are available and N for no, they are not), whilst the number refers to the length of their contract. The ones to watch out for here are those with Y/1 or Y/0 next to their names. This means the player’s contract is about to expire, so you should be able to get them for a discount price.

Finally, because EA release update squads every week, this could mean that some of the players listed in the article below are slightly different on your game. Furthermore, players sometimes exceed their potential, while it has been noted that occasionally players don’t grow as hoped. Therefore these stats are a guide only.

These are the right midfielders I recommend:

  • Gabriel
  • Sandro
  • Ayoze Pérez
  • Souleymane Coulibaly

My first recommendation is a goalscorer from the talent factory of Santos in Brazil: Gabriel. Only aged 16 but already possessing great pace and 70 finishing, this player has poacher written all over him. His stats indicate he’s going to develop into a fantastic attacking package, excelling at dribbling, passing and, of course, finishing. Just make sure you get him early because his OVR – and price – will just rise and rise.

Sandro from Barcelona B is my next choice, and he’s on here because he has one of the highest finishing stats in this article at 74. Although Narváez at RM Castilla actually has a slightly higher finishing stat (77), Sandro is much more well rounded, possessing pace, amazing agility and balance, as well as excellent dribbling and ball control. What further marks him out is his positioning of 75, meaning he’ll have a knack of making runs and getting in the right positions to grab you vital goals on a consistent basis.

Number three is Ayoze Pérez of CD Tenerife. He’s been recommended because although his starting OVR is only 60, he actually starts with dribbling 79 and ball control 77. That’s mad for a player of his starting OVR, and means that for around £500,000 (with a bit of bartering) you’ll have a player with devastating dribbling skills who will weave through defences with consummate ease. His best position would be just behind a main striker, where he can put his dribbling skills to best use. Standout abilities like that are rare; just make sure you don’t miss out.

If you’re finding that your stikers are losing the ball too easily then Souleymane Coulibaly could be the goalscorer you need. He’s got decent pace and can dribble, but what sets him apart from your average goalscorer is his strength of 71. He may only be 5’8″, but he can hold his own, so not only will he be able to score goals himself but he will hold the ball up and create chances for other players. Not quite a target man, he’s the one to go for if you want a player with great feet who can use his body as well.
